Easy Home Improvements Staining a Wooden Deck

A wooden deck is a great addition to any home. You and the family can relax out there in the sun during the summer, read, have barbeques, and more. However, you’ll find that the elements can soon take their toll and can bleach out the color of your deck, leaving it looking drab. If you want to have a great-looking wooden deck, you need to stain and seal it properly. A proper staining will help to protect it from the environment, including UV rays. Fortunately, staining a wooden deck is very easy, and you will be able to do it on your own.

The first step is to make sure that you choose a color of stain that will look good on your wooden deck. Many different choices are available, and you can see them all at your local home improvement store.

Before you stain your wooden deck, you need to make sure it is clean. You might want to use a pressure washer or a specialized deck cleaner for the job. After you wash the deck, you will want to let it dry thoroughly in the sun, for at least 24hrs.

The easiest way to stain a wooden deck is to use a long handled roller. Pour the wood-stain liquid into a rolling pan, and then only use a small amount at a time. Soak the roller, squeeze out the excess, and get to work. Go over the entire deck in this manner. You can wipe any excess stains away. When it is finished, you should let it dry for at least 24hrs. You may want to add a second coat onto your wooden deck. You can finish it with a variety of waxes or seals if you wish, which will provide waterproofing.

It is easy to stain your own wooden deck, and you can save a lot of money by doing it on your own.
