Simple Ways To Save Money on Children’s Toys

Saving money on children’s toys can seem like a self-defeating task.  A trip to your local toy-mart will show that prices just keep climbing.  However, you can beat that upward spiral and still start saving money on the children’s toys that your little ones want.

One of the best ways to begin saving money is to recycle – hand me downs from older siblings are often great options here.  This allows you to avoid paying over-inflated toy-store prices, while still giving that younger child something new to them.  However, you do need to make sure that your older child understands that those toys no longer belong to him or her – this will help head off potential conflict.  Offer them a reward for giving away their toy, such as a fun afternoon in the park or a week off from a chore they dislike.

You can also start saving money on toys and other purchases by buying through thrift shops or the local Goodwill.  Buying gently used toys is certainly an acceptable way to give your child an enjoyable gift without breaking the bank.  Most thrift stores have many toys which are still in the box, and while slightly more expensive, this will help them get away from the fact that they’re getting a ‘used’ toy.

Another option to begin saving money on toy purchases is to shop with local yard sales.  Often, you will find some great toys for literally pennies.  You might also consider visiting flea markets in your area, as these can be true treasure troves of toys for bargain prices.  Both of these options can give you enormous savings on toys, and you might even find some new toys available through both methods, as well.

If you follow these simple tips, you will be able to start saving money, while still being able to find those toys that you want for your child.
