Do You Need Multivitamins if You Have a Good Diet?

As children, most people are instructed by their parents to take their daily vitamins to continue growing.  As adults, most people forgo the daily multivitamin, misled to believe that it is no longer necessary.  However, nutrition is just as important in adulthood as it was in childhood, necessary to help slow aging and to fight common conditions and diseases.

Even with adults striving to eat healthier and consume more vitamins in their food, there are still conditions that are often unavoidable without a daily vitamin.  A woman may drink milk everyday, but still develop osteoporosis because the required amount of calcium required for optimum bone health cannot be achieved just by drinking milk.  It’s also simply impossible to consume all the necessary vitamins you need each day in food alone; with a multivitamin, you’ll have all of your bases covered.

Further benefits of multivitamins include reduced stress, more energy, and enhanced immune function.  You’ll also improve brain and eye function, cardiovascular health, reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, have healthier eyes, teeth, hair and nails, and ultimately lower your costs in medical bills.

When shopping for a multivitamin, look for vitamins that include Vitamin A, C, D, E, and K.  The multivitamin should also contain biotin, calcium, iron, magnesium, and selenium.

You should, of course, continue to eat healthily after taking a multivitamin.  After all, it’s not a magic pill, but simply an aid to proper nutrition.  If you find high street vitamin stores too pricey, check out online discount vitamin suppliers such as the popular Puritan’s Pride (www.puritan.com).
