Dining Out Guide: Dine at El Cholo For Excellent Mexican Food

Whether you are visiting Los Angeles or have been a longtime resident, you need to know the best restaurant options in the city.  While the City of Angeles has more restaurants than you can shake a stick at, if you want some of the best Mexican cuisine in the city, served up with a side of history, then paying El Cholo a visit is probably the best option.

First, you will certainly find a lot of rich history with El Cholo.  The restaurant actually got its start back in 1923, and opened under the name The Sonora Café.  That changed in 1925, when a diner drew a man on the menu and named him "El Cholo" – the owner liked it so much that he immediately changed the name of the restaurant to El Cholo Café.

Throughout history, El Cholo has been home to culinary innovation.  For instance, nachos were invented here, and they were also responsible for the trend of using Cuervo 1800 Tequila to make margaritas.

El Cholo has also been a favorite spot with celebrities throughout its history, with Bing Crosby and Gary Cooper being two of the most notable past celebrities.  Today, El Cholo is a favorite spot for celebrities like Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty.

El Cholo actually has three locations in the area, with the second being added in 1926 and the third in 1997.  They have also sold more than 1 billion tortillas in the original location alone, which is enough to stretch around the world three and a half times.
