How To Make the Perfect Pancake

One of my fondest memories as a child was making pancakes on Saturday mornings with my mom and brother. We would pick out ingredients at the grocery store, measure, mix batter, and cook all different sized pancakes. It was a family breakfast to truly savor.

Below, I’ve outlined a simple recipe to make great tasting pancakes. You can add on a number of different ingredients depending on your taste.

Pancake Ingredients:

1 egg
1/2 cup warm milk
1 teaspoon baking power
3 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon melted butter.

Pancake Directions:

Step 1: Whisk the egg, milk, and butter together.

Step 2: Add the sugar and baking powder. Slowly mix in the flour. Use more or less flour depending on consistency.

Step 3: Heat a pan to medium, and oil or butter it lightly.

Step 4: Make a ‘test pancake’ using only a little bit of batter. Depending on taste and constancy, I usually add more or less flour, sugar, or milk.

Step 5: Pour a nice sized amount of batter.

Step 6: When the batter firms up and large bubbles form, flip over. The bottom should be golden brown, not black.

Step 7: Cook for 2-5 minutes until both sides are golden brown.

With most recipes, you can add or change ingredients depending on your taste. If you are serving more than yourself, go ahead and double this recipe. I like to use real dairy cream instead of milk and add a lot more sugar to make sweeter pancakes.

You can also add bananas, blueberries, or strawberries into the batter. For chocolate chip pancakes, add those into the batter too, then sprinkle some powdered sugar when they are done.

Enjoy!
