How to Build a Great Craft Website

If you enjoy arts and crafts and want to increase your craft sales to people around the country, then creating a craft website is an effective way to get your name and business out into the world.

The first thing you will want to do in building an online presence is to visit GoDaddy.com and choose a website (domain) name.  This will cost you approximately $10 a year to keep that name registered to you.

Next, you will need to create a basic site with a homepage and a minimum of three pages.  Here, your visitors should find photos of your crafts, as well as an introduction about you and your hobby.  You should have a handful of authentic testimonials from people who have purchased your craft items.  This is the first part of your website that visitors see, and you want it to make it obvious what you have to offer.

Remember, first impressions are everything, so the design and layout of your home page should be clean and impressive, and definitely creative!  You can enlist the services or a professional website design company, or you can build your own using WordPress or Wix.com.  Both are available online for free and have intuitive setups which require little or no technical knowledge.

You will also need an ‘About Me’ page that goes into detail about your craft and how you got started.  A great background story can go a long way here.

You should also include a ‘Contact Me’ page that will help people see how they can ask questions or purchase your crafts.

Last, your website should have a blog or article page where you offer information and tips culled from your own experience.  Keep this updated every week to increase readership and website traffic.

When you build a website that offers what people need and spend a little time getting the address out there, it can be a very helpful business tool.  Making a website can be an excellent way to turn your craft hobby into a viable business.
